as misleading. There is a useful chapter on climates in India, a successful attempt to explain clearly the phenomena of protection and immunity. The chapter on beverages is useful, but we think it more than a liberal daily allowance to give a man 2 oz. of absolute alcohol, equivalent to 4 glasses of port, 5 glasses of sherry, etc. Half this quantity will probably do little harm, if well diluted, but we agree that it is not a necessity even in the Indian climate. We are sorry to see perpetuated a picture of the "three chatti filter "?though much used, it is seldom thoroughly cleaned and is a positive danger. Hankin's old saying about the Ganges water surely applies to any big, shallow, broad river exposed to the strong disinfective power of the Indian sun.
